The #iamcarbonpositive Movement is created by the Circular Centre to encourage all members of the garment making industry to easily offset the carbon emissions associated with the clothes they make + encourage all individuals to be proactive and "calculate their wardrobe" then sequester the carbon that was emitted during the making of their clothes.
This Movement is line with the United Nations SDG Goal 13 on Climate Action and the urgent need to draw down existing carbon that is contributing to climate change and causing devastating impact on both people and planet.
The term carbon neutral means that an activity releases net zero carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Climate positive means that an activity goes beyond achieving net zero carbon emissions to create an environmental benefit by removing additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. From this term, this is how we have named the movement #iamcarbonpositive
#iamcarbonpositive is to enable both the garment industry and individuals to be proactive and go beyond neutral and effect a faster and greater positive change and help address climate change.
The #iamcarbonpositive MOVEMENT is for garment producers to offer to customers the opportunity to sequester the carbon used in the manufacturing and shipping of garments at the point of purchase and donate to "plant a tree".
Following detailed research, we can estimate that it cost approximtely aud$2 per garment to offset and add extra to plant more trees to drawdown more carbon. It also opens the conversation with your customers on offsetting, carbon and their ability to also participate in the #positivefashion CHALLENGE.
Members of the garment industry are invited to join the Movement to receive swing tags plus a Marketing and PR Kit to help share your stories & commitment to positive climate action.
Take the #POSITIVEFASHION CHALLENGE in 3 easy Steps:
1. Count how many garments you own
2. Calculate & donate directly to ......to offset the carbon - approx aud$2/garment is enough to be #carbonpositive and is tax deductible
3. share your commitment to climate action and take the #positivefashion CHALLENGE to plant and protect biodiverse native forests in Australia and New Zealand for 100 years.
